Parables of Christ

March 29, 2011

For the past 4 weeks we have been covering some of the parables of Christ in our student ministry.

We have covered:

  • The parable of the weeds
  • The parable of the sower
  • The parable of the tenants
  • The parable of the pharisee and the tax collector

Here is a thought or theme that just seems to come to a point when reading what Jesus said. He, meaning Jesus Christ, is extremely concerned about your personal salvation and where you spend eternity. As I read theses passages I can’t help but think of the choice or lack of choice for you that comes at the end. Everyone is spending eternity somewhere, the question is whether or not you are spending it in heaven with Christ or in hell.

It’s funny because as much as you hear that Jesus was a good person, or good teacher or just a prophet, He makes claims that only God in human form can make. He puts heaven and hell in front of you and almost forces the issue. There is something I really really love about that. I think it’s because I look around and every church seems to be preaching how do have a better marriage, how to manage your money, 9 steps to a better you, how to make your legacy last… I could go on and on. When was the last time you saw a sermon series on heaven, and hell and where you are going?

Jesus talked about it a lot. Do you think we ought to be talking about it more?
