He Is Not Far Off

December 14, 2010

[26] And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, [27] that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, [28] for

“‘In him we live and move and have our being’;
as even some of your own poets have said,

“‘For we are indeed his offspring.’
(Acts 17:26-28 ESV)

I love Acts 17. It is possibly one of my chapters in the Bible. Here are just a few reasons why:

  • Paul is compelled to share the nature of God.
  • He speaks boldly.
  • He isn’t being weird, handing out tracks or being awkward around the unbelievers.
  • He explains the Gospel, that people are sinners and need saved.

But although all of those reasons are great in terms of making Acts 17 cool, I want to point to the verses above.

God has determined where you will be in life. He knows your situation, it WAS NOT a mistake that you are where you are. And He has placed us there so that we might find Him, He is not far away from us.

Everyone seems to be going through something right? I have my problems and you have yours, and they are not surprising to God. And often times when things are not going the way we think they should we ask the question; “Where is God in this?”

What if we took the truth of this passage and realized that He is not far off, but is actually closer than we think and He is wanting us to find Him. Maybe we should step back and see Him? Look, God is close, for someone out there reading this, He is near. Let that encourage you.

Peace.
