Know Him… Love Him

September 10, 2010

“Our hearts cannot be inflamed about something  we

do not know anything about!

Unless we know God deeply, we cannot love Him

deeply.”- R.C. Sproul

There is nothing in this world that is going to satisfy. The only thing that can do that is God. And in order for that to happen we must begin to understand who God is, what He is doing, and how He is doing it.

This past Wednesday I simply explained that unless we know God, then we will never love God. I often struggle with knowing that there are people who don’t think the Church is cool, they don’t think this “God” thing is for them, and they definitely are not ready to follow Christ. Even though humanity runs around chasing things that they think are going to satisfy their desires, they will never have that sense of satisfaction. As humans we have a hunger and thirst that will never be quenched, we will never be full. Unless, that is we know and understand and love God.

In John 4 Jesus is talking to a woman at a well. He asks for a drink and through a series of interaction Jesus gets to the point and basically says “Look, if you knew who was asking you for a drink, you would ask Him and He would give you something that will take away all of your hunger and thirst.”*

He then gently exposes her life and shows her that she is not satisfied with her current state. He graciously shows her that He is the end all. My question is this… where is Jesus showing you that how or what you are doing is not satisfying?

Are you tired of trying to be cool enough, tired of trying to fill your life with all kinds of, in the end, meaningless activity?

Begin to learn, know and understand Christ. Love God and be satisfied.
