Don’t Laugh It Off

May 28, 2010

The more you talk to people, the more you see that all of us are extremely flawed. Just ask my wife. Just kidding but seriously I do have my flaws like everyone else. The question is, when we see a flaw in our life what do we do about it?

There are many different reactions to our character flaws. But the one I have noticed lately is “laughing it off.” This happens most often when the flaw doesn’t seem to hurt anyone or anything. We think that because it has no immediate effect on a situation that the flaw does not need dealt with. Wrong.

A character flaw is a character flaw is a character flaw. (No that wasn’t a typo) It does not matter the size of the flaw, the fact will always remain… until we deal with the flaws in our life, they will still remain.

Don’t laugh the flaws off. The thinking that a flaw  is an innocent mistake or a problem not big enough to fix right away will lead you into bigger trouble down the road.

Don’t laugh it off, deal with the character flaws.

I definitely agree with this, however, when you do approach someone that you may have offended and they don’t want to work through it with you. I would almost say you need to learn from your mistake and laugh it off. Other people being angry with you is an attempt to rob your joy. You can only take responsibility for your part, not for everyone’s part.

Good stuff. Of course, I didn’t know you had any character flaws.

I hear what you are saying Ben, we don’t need to beat ourselves up over the same thing for a prolonged period of time.
