Consistent = Relevant

December 24, 2009

Lots of people are trying to  make a little name for themselves on the web. Web 2.0 has enabled people to create some sort of celebrity status that they would not other wise had. To be honest I think I might be one of those people. Not because I am super egotistical (my wife would not have married me if I was that bad), but because I want to influence as many people who I can. If you tweet, blog or use any other form of social media chances are you much like me.

One of the biggest things lessons that I have learned when it coming to social media is that if you are going to be relevant you must be consistent. Want to have a readership on your blog? Consistently produce good content. Want people to follow your tweets? Tweet something that actually matters to someone. Do it consistently and followers (not pornographers) will follow. You will become a relevant tweeter.

It drives me up a wall to see people think they are good at social media and not be consistent at it. They aren’t relevant if they are not consistent. I think you would agree.

Simple rule of thumb for me is: If I don’t know you or about you and come across your blog or Twitter profile and you haven’t updated either or then I won’t follow you. You aren’t relevant because you are not consistent.

Want to be relevant? Then you must start with consistency.

Thoughts? Agree or disagree? Examples of why I am right? Leave a comment people, thanks!
