Value put into action= Worship

October 1, 2009

A number of years ago I think there was a huge push in the church to have “good” worship time during our services (talking about the whole church through out the world). I can remember being a teen and hearing people say that “we have to have a good worship time” or “church wasn’t that good I didn’t get that much out of worship.” Because I was young and dumb I didn’t care that much back then.

Now things are different. I have been doing “church” for a number of years and still from time to time I hear “Oh worship was so good for me tonight” or “Dude, we played this song and the people were just worshiping, it was awesome man.” And to be honest those phrases are not bad per say. But often times I think we are missing the point in what we see as worship.

We all worship. Whether you’re a believer in Christ or something else, we all worship 24/7/365. It’s just about who or what we worship. True worship at its core is an action towards a spiritual being, person, place, thing that we find high value you in.

Worship is not about us, how we feel, or how we make others feel if you get to be a lead worshiper. Worship is about God. And until we see God for who he truly is, we will never worship Him like we ought too.

Thoughts? I would love to hear them.

Sure, our entire lives should be worship! But He likes it when we sing to him, and when we do it corporately it is a delight to our Lord. So corporate worship should be part of our life of worship.

When I worship, personally, I want to really go after God. I want to pour out my hear to Him, I want Him to know exactly how I feel about him. I want him to know the depths of my gratitude. Granted, he knows anyway – but I want to show it to him. It’s my time to say Thank you Lord! You are Great and Glorious.

But you’re right. That kind of worship is only a part of a life of worship.

worship doesn’t necessarily have to be directed to a “spiritual” anything. i think that most often we worship ourselves, even when we “worship” God. do we sings songs to God because he’s God, or do we sing songs to God because he does stuff for us?

worshipping anything that is not God is sin because God is ultimate and the only one deserving of worship. Christianity is about Jesus changing people from worshipping other things to worshipping what is worthy of worship, namely God in Christ. Christianity is worship. life is worship. heaven will be worship. forever.

good post. continue to broaden your view of worship. it is everything.

Mark I think you are correct in that we can worship anything, I just did not happen to word it that way. Good thoughts on the fact that we worship mostly ourselves. So true. After all iambendavis.com haha good point.
