By Definition p2

July 11, 2009

I had posted earlier a definition of the church by Mark Driscoll. I just thought that I would weigh in with a few thoughts about the definition.

“The local church is a community of regenerated believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. In obedience to scripture they organize under qualified leadership, gather regularly  for preaching and worship. observe biblical sacraments of baptism and Communion, are unified by the Spirit, are disciplined for holiness, and scatter to fulfill the Great Commission as missionaires to the world for God’s glory and their joy.”- Mark Driscoll

First I like that Mark uses the term regenerated believers. To be regenerated means to bring something into renewed existance or to bring new life into something.

Second, he says that they are in obediance with scripture. This is a must for any Christian church. Obeying scripture they gather regularly for a number of things. If your missing any of these in your church then you might want to check into what is wrong.

Third I love that he uses the word “scatter.” I am going to be scattering in just a few shorts days here to Argentina! I can’t wait.
