Dear Pastor,

July 2, 2009

Is it your goal to do the following?

See how big your ego can get?

Find out how fake you can become?

Work like a machine that pumps out product but is made of steel and doesn’t feel?

Preach what you see and not what you read in the word of God?

Post more blog posts than the pastor down the street?

Teach people leadership but not how to be disciples?

Act like you lead a moral life?

Tell people to be humble but not be a servant yourself?

Act like you love homosexuals but talk in a gay voice and make fun of them?

Listen to non- Christian music just to seem up to date?

Build a new worship center but not know how to worship in it?

Not ever preach an original sermon, but just use Andy Freakin’ Stanley’s instead?

Talk about how people should join a small group but never join one yourself?

Talk about being a good father to your church and have your kids turn on you because “your never there”?

To always be the boss?

Never preach on loss? Or the cost of following Christ? Or anything that isn’t “you can have if….”?

To have a mega church?

DISCLAIMER: This post is not directed at anyone specfic, please note that. But if you answered “Yes” to any of these you might want to check yourself and your motives for doing ministry. And let me say this… at the young age of 25 years old, a lot of these questions are pointed right at myself. Thanks for hearing the heart.

CindyK I think what you wrote means “which is to be demonstrated” or something of the like… all I can say is I am trying.

I guess I didn’t hold anything back. But hey sometimes you have to say what you need to say. The good thing is this was NOT meant towards anyone specific, rather coming out of some thoughts that I have had in my mind for the past 5 to 6 years.

Do you think it sounds to harsh?

No, I don’t think it was too harsh especially since it was not directed towards anyone. I think I was just taken back by your brutal honesty. I like that you are honest with your writings, they are the best ones to read. I think shocked would be the best way to describe my initial feeling.
