Servant of All p2

May 19, 2009

We find in Mark 10 that Jesus address’s the want to be first and how you are suppose to get there.

He says in verse 43 and 44; “But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.”

Everyone is trying to be first, even if they don’t want to be in charge they want to be the boss’s favorite. And here is the real kicker… there is nothing wrong with wanting to be first! The problem comes in how you try to be first and how you act when you get there.

Jesus wants us to be servants of all, not just of the people we like or a select group that we are close too. I think myself along with so many other leaders in the world forget why we are in the position we are… to serve, not have others serve for us.

So lately I have been trying to serve as many people as possible, saying to myself in my mind, “how can I serve this person.” When we make a conscious effort to serve people God is glorified.

Jesus added right after verses 43 and 44 that the Son of Man (meaning Christ himself) came not to be served, but to serve. He adds that he came to give His life as a ransom for many… that is ultimate servant leadership.

If my life is to look like Christ then I must be a servant like my Leader.
