Change your mindset

January 23, 2009

I want to open something up for discussion and I will get right into it…Can the Holy Spirit be “stale?” Now I know your first reaction is to say “NO IT CAN’T BE STALE!,” but think about it… is it possible? Do you think it could be possible…maybe? Is there anything in you that says that the Holy Spirit can be stale,  just an inkling of truth in the question?

The correct answer to this question is “No” the Holy Spirit can not be stale. But somehow I think most Christiansnatural answer to this question is “Yes.” I know it sounds crazy but I will explain my point.

The opposite of fresh is stale.

So so often I hear people praying and what is it that they are asking for? “A fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.”

Let me encourage you, praying for more of the Holy Spirit is great and we should do it. But there needs to be a change in our thinking/minds. The Holy Spirit is always fresh, He is never stale and does not grow old. So instead of praying for a “fresh” outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we should pray that we would understand fully the power of the Holy Spirit. His power is always fresh, let’s pray and act like this is true.

I hope you can feel my heart in this post.

I would have to agree that the Spirit cannot be stale. I think what becomes stale is our attentiveness to Him and His working in our lives.

I really think it is important to do exactly what you did in this post; we need to EXAMINE the way we pray and make sure that 1)What we are asking for is Biblical and/or even makes sense, and 2)That we really do want what we are praying for.
