Encounters with Weirdness…

January 8, 2009

What do you do when you have nothing to say? You know when you see someone you know, maybe you already said hi but you have nothing to say. You know the feeling of “I need to say and do something but I don’t have anything.”

So what do you do? Wave? Give a peace sign? A bashful look away? Grunt? Give the head nod? There are many things people do that are weird and awkward when they don’t have anything to say. Everyone has their own personal thing they do.

To me one of the weirdest ones is the slooooow punch to the stomach. Look around people do this all the time and I do not understand it. They don’t say anything to you, just come up and act like they are going to inflict pain but never do. How is acting like you are going to inflict pain cool?

I have never heard of any culture ever punching people as they say hello, why would anyone fake punch people to say hello?

Can you think of any other weird Social Encounters? Leave a comment and tell me about it.

Lol I’ve always been glad that the punching thing is more a guy thing. This post reminded me of being a greeter at APC with you and we would stand there and say, “Greeting is so awkward.”

It’s better than the Old Testament “Agreement Thigh-Grasp.”
