Temptation P2

October 31, 2008

So I was saying earlier that we are all faced with the same type of temptation (see Temptation P1 post.) If you think about it God really leveled the playing field so that no one person cannot say they have it harder than the other. When it comes to focusing on Jesus and avoiding temptation, God makes it very easy for us to do.

There is a very practical way to avoid the temptation that the world puts in your path. The answer is found in James 4:8. It says this “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” That is an incredible promise! I picture it like this: You are running towards Jesus and you can see Him off in the distance and then you see Him start to run towards you, just like the verse says! I think most people read this and think that it will never happen to them. But it does, God’s promises are never left undone!

3 Easy steps to avoid temptation

1. Draw near to Jesus and He will do the same to you– this means you need to talk to Him through prayer and you need to hear Him talk back to you through the Bible and the Holy Spirit.

2. Get some accountability– I am not talking about asking a friend one time to check up on you. Find someone who is going to get in your face and rub you the wrong way! God doesn’t like wimpy accountability!

3. Replace your temptation with something positive– it never hurt anyone to walk away from their temptation and do something that will actually better them and others.
