Greg I understand everything you said. I more or less meant that it is not kosher so to speak, as to mention those subjects.

Growing up I always found churches to say that they would talk about politics, or abortion, or sex or what have you; only to have the preacher “bring it to a bigger picture.”

Your point is valid for sure, do you follow what I was trying to say?

Ben, there are many subjects these days that cannot be addressed from the pulpit, such and Pro-life, Criticism of the government, Euthanasia. All these and more are not addressed (unless you are in a black church, then you can campaign there, if you are a Liberal Democrat), simply because the tax laws are written so as to silence the church to be able to address the evils of the ruling class according to the Laws of God. Thanks to progressives, who introduced the 16th amendment giving us the income tax, Churches cannot address issues that can be construed as political by the government, causing a chilling of speech similar to what’s been done in Communist countries for years–unless you toe a very thin line, you are in danger of losing your 501 (c) 3. In years past, the pulpit was the place for issues to be addressed. One of our countries greatest revivalists, Charles Finney, was an ardent abolitionist, and went so far as to refuse to preach in southern churches unless he could address the issue. What was not discussed in the taverns (another popular meeting place), was preached from the pulpit in light of the Word of God, rallying people for the American Revolution. I personally would like to see these laws repealed, and if that can’t happen, start seeing churches defy the Government and voluntarily give up their tax exempt status so they can freely speak their minds.

Clarity of vision and purpose. Repeat.

It’s important to understand why & how you’re doing something and to continually be reminded of it. I think that will help stay unified as to the task at hand so as not to get focused on our own agendas.

It’s incredible to be on a team like we have at Real Church. We hear Paul’s words in Acts 20:24 and know nothing stands in our way from that kind of life. And when we look around, we know the Lord Jesus brought our team together – no one else could have! When you know you’re called (not just invited) then nothing knocks you off course. You’re in it to win it… together.

Just as books about humility aren’t big sellers, you don’t see a lot of “success stories” about the humble guys with servant’s hearts. Usually, it’s the aggressive go-getters that get the spotlight…
More bloggers should seek out this rare humble breed and feature them!!! (Ben?)

re: not letting the praise mess with your head… a very wise musician once taught me the same thing – that it’s the surest way to stunt your growth as a musician. we stop struggling to become better once we start believing that we’re already great. (and usually, that “fan” has moved on to tearing you down in no time)

That is great. I wonder if having 2 people who have all the leadership is that much better than 1 person though? Couldn’t it just result in the same problems when there isn’t a team of leaders involved in decision making?

it’s a challenge but wise to hire for your area(s) of weakness. it’s a further challenge but necessity to release that hire to act with autonomy in the areas of their strengths.

it’s only “lip service” to hire someone if we never let them execute fully in the strengths we ourselves lack.

humility & commitment to mission must supercede our desire for control & recognition. only then do we lead authentically.
